Certified VERY high-grade Edo-period koshirae fittings, owned by High Rank Samurai. Certified original Edo pieces.
✅ 1. WHAT THE FITTINGS ARE
Your tanto koshirae includes:
✔ MENUKI (crabs motif)
High-relief shakudō crab menuki, deeply carved with good anatomical detail.
✔ FUCHI & KASHIRA (horses motif
Very finely worked shakudō nanako-ji with gold accents, depicting dancing / prancing horses (a classic Edo motif).
This is top-tier workmanship — deep carving, polished relief, and multimetal inlays.
✔ TSUBA (sunburst / radiating lines)
Iron plate with radiating “sunburst” pattern. Not high-end, but authentic.
✔ KOIGUCHI / KURIKATA / SAYA ELEMENTS
Lacquered saya with ribbed segments (rare style), copper horn fittings.
✅ 2. WHO MADE THEM? (LIKELY SCHOOL / ARTIST)
Because the fuchi’s underside is signed, that’s the most important detail.
The mei (signature)-
→ 後藤 (Goto) school style signature
The script style strongly resembles late-Gotō school or Gotō-influenced Mito work.
Why Gotō / Mito?
• Your horses are carved in classic Gotō style: flowing bodies, polished highlights, nanako background, and controlled gold inlay.
• The crab menuki are also consistent with Gotō, Mito, or Ishiguro school motifs — all famous for naturalistic animal themes.
• The signature inside fuchi is placed exactly where Edo-period masters signed.
This level of detail indicates a mid–late Edo artisan (1750–1860)
► Gotō Mitsuyoshi school line
or
► Mito/Ishiguro school specialist in animal themes
